The story of Hercules is a well known tale of strength and absolution. He had to complete twelve labours in order to be absolved of his sins and be gifted immortality.

One popular strongman event is the “Hercules Hold” or “Hercules Pillars”. A test of strength and grip that will push athletes to their limits. It is said to emulate when Hercules was completing the tenth labour and smashed his way through a mountain splitting it in two pieces. The Hercules hold is an exciting and difficult task – The athletes stands between the two pillars and holds both and prevents them from falling. This is a timed event where the athlete who can hold on the longest wins.

We have built our own prototype for the Herm Strongest 2025 competition. It is built of wood, which has enabled us to test dimensions for the perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality. We are currently testing weights and when completed we will commission the fabrication of the Herm Hercules Hold in steel.

The equipment will be sprayed black and it will have adjustable heights to select for different sized athletes.

Luckily for me I can practise on this wooden contraption in the interim.
